Kirnain (کرنیں) is a collection of romantic short Urdu stories (افسانے) written by famous Urdu humor writer Col. Shafiq-ur-Rehman. Released in 1941, It is the first published collection of his stories. The book gained massive readership and solidified the author’s status as an accomplished writer.
There are seven short stories in this anthology. Each follows a different plot, but the central theme is romance, desire, and affection. Every tale has a distant set of characters representing diverse cultural and social aspects.
Shafiq-ur-Rehman’s short stories are always a treat to read. Along with satire and humor, we also see a touch of romance and social issues of upper and middle-class people in his writings. He has a way of vividly capturing social and cultural issues through his characters.
