Shikanja (شکنجہ) is a famous Urdu novel authored by famed novelist M. Ilyas. The book was initially published as a monthly digest, then as a conventional paperback book. It is one of the best crime Urdu novels.
The story revolves around a crime reporter named Mr. Sikandar and a police Inspector Safdar. As it happens one fine day, an unknown person calls Mr. Sikandar and tells him that someone wants him dead and even the police can not help him. This seemingly unimportant and uncomplicated phone call leads him to a mafia of human smugglers. Afterward, Sikandar and Inspector Safdar investigate this mafia and are surprised to find their roots and motives.
