The Borshay novel’s story takes place in the eighteenth century. It revolves around a girl named Maria, who creates a musical instrument and names it Borshay. The fireflies gather around her and dance when she plays the “Borshay.” One day, a boy named Oscar sees her playing borshay in the jungle and is fascinated by it. The two form a connection due to that instrument.
One night, when the fireflies come to the tunes, they get burned. Maria throws the borshay away and leaves with a broken heart. Afterward, Oscar picks up the borshay and determines to learn to play it in order to bring the fireflies and Maria back.
