The novel’s name actually refers to a mountain named Rakaposhi (راکا پوشی), situated in the Karakoram mountains range in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. When you travel to Hunza, Rakaposhi can be seen from far away with all its glory, white, beautiful, and high in the sky, just like the Taj Mahal of Agra.
The novel’s story is inspired by the real-life events of the rescue operation of Tomaž Humar, a mountaineer who came here in 2005, with the dream of climbing the world’s most gorgeous yet dangerous mountain Nanga Parbat.
